The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) requires that all students in grades 3-8 participate in three ILEARN Checkpoints in addition to the ILEARN summative assessment in the spring each year. These Checkpoints are a component of the ILEARN through-year assessment for English/Language Arts (ELA) and Math. The window for the first Checkpoint opens the last week of September.
The Checkpoints occur seasonally in fall, winter, and spring, with an optional retest opportunity window opening concurrently. Each Checkpoint has 20-25 questions to show how an individual child is performing on key skills and concepts from the Indiana Academic Standards. Kindergarten students at Hendry Park have been busy getting to know the school, staff, and daily routine. Principal Ryan Stellhorn visited the classroom to introduce himself and answer students' questions. He enjoyed sharing fun facts about himself—including his love of being a cheesehead—and talking about his passion for Purdue University.
Calling all Elementary Students! Get ready to have a blast running a 1-Mile Cross Country Race through the beautiful grassy areas near Commons Park in Angola, Indiana. This 1st annual county-wide Elementary Cross Country race is sure to challenge and inspire the youth of Steuben County. This event is open to all students K-5.

MSD of Steuben County is proud to announce a historic achievement in early literacy, with the official 2024-2025 IREAD results showing a record-breaking proficiency rate. The district reached its highest-ever pass rate with an impressive 90.3% of students achieving proficiency, well above the state average of 87.3%.
Students at Hendry Park spent time last week relaxing with the sensory bins!
Time to get in the zone(s of regulation)! Each day this week (Aug 18-22), we will be dressing up as the different colored zones, followed by a Spirit Day Friday! Over the past few years, our elementary students have been learning about the different feelings in each zone and learn skills to self-regulate. Today we start off in the BLUE zone. Check in with your student at the end of the day to see what emotion they learned in the BLUE zone.
We are proud of the supportive, family, and fun environment at our schools. Hendry Park showed this spirit in action when the teachers surprised Principal Ryan Stellhorn on his birthday—by all dressing up like him!
